How to use Active Residents

1. Snap a Photo

Open the app and tap the large camera button. Take a clear photo of the issue (e.g., pothole, graffiti). Ensure the surrounding area is visible for context.

2. Confirm Location

The app automatically detects your location using GPS. Verify the pin on the map is correct. You can drag the pin to adjust if necessary.

3. Select Category

Choose the most appropriate category from the list (e.g., Road Maintenance, Waste, Lighting). This ensures your report reaches the right council department instantly.

4. Submit & Track

Hit submit! You'll receive a notification when the council views your report and another when the issue has been resolved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I change my home council?

You can change your default council area in the Settings menu. Go to Profile > Settings > Location Preferences. Note that you can report issues in any council area regardless of your home setting; the app detects your current location automatically.

The app says "Location not found". What do I do?

Please ensure that Location Services are enabled for Active Residents in your phone's settings.

iOS: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Active Residents > While Using the App.
Android: Settings > Location > App permissions > Active Residents > Allow only while using the app.

Can I edit a report after submitting it?

Once a report is submitted to the council, the core details (location, photo) cannot be edited to preserve the chain of evidence. However, you can add "Updates" or "Comments" to your report thread if you have new information.
